1958 D Lincoln Cent: Doubled Die Obverse / DDO ?

But the one easy tell tale sign on this coin is how thin the top of the 9 was made during the doubling as compared to the rest of the 9's parts. An actual doubled die has been engraved twice with the same design so the devices are made thicker, not thinner. How much squash could a Sasquatch squash if a Sasquatch would squash squash? coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 02/28/2020 8:21 pm On a doubled die, the affected area is not a reduction of the device. It is caused by the machine right after the strike. The machine die movement damaged the coin: Just like this coin: On a doubled die, the devices are enlarged on the die and they will be larger than normal size. Note these devices. These are doubled on the die, not caused by the machine. While the date has some doubling, the other devices show strong doubling. Your coin was a normal strike, the the Machine Doubling damaged it like a kick in the shins. This happens often on coin, even on doubled die, they can be affected. Note the yellow arrows. These are all doubled dies, but the arrows point to where the MD happened on these coins. There are probably more of the 1969-S DDO with MD than the normal ones for that year. (MD was common on 1968-1972 cents) Report this Post to the Staff
