Just die chips. We see these often on these dime dies. I feel the die was brittle and they chips happen more often. What caused the die to be brittle? During the tempering process, if it is quenched to soon the die will be brittle. If quenched too late the die will not be tempered, but be soft and not be a long lasting die. There is a quenching process that is needed to be followed exactly. So someone must have fouled up on these dies. No premium, just information you need to know, so you can pass them by the next time, and put them back to work.
