Well I decided to do something different from now on. Instead of posting a picture of the coin in my holder with the grade I thought it was when I bought it, from now on I'll leave that first grade up to you all ...... and I do thank you for your time and opinions.

So what do you think?

Tricky one. I'll say AU-55. How's the luster?

Yes, it is a tricky one. It doesn't really show in the pictures but I can tell it's dirty and since it's not a valuable coin anyway, I think a little soak in some mild dish soap and a rinse would improve the look and bring out a bit more of the luster that I can see is still there ..... maybe 25%

the 89(O) is generally weak. this is typical on this one as noted by the flat breast. I wouldn't touch it. AU55

I'd say AU-53, but lacking in luster. I think soap and water might make it worse.

First thoughts were EF45 but I can see AU side of things too, I was probably low based on lack of luster and the flater strike, which as panzaldi correctly states is a feature of this date and shouldn't really take away from the grade as it's not wear, but a striking characteristic.

AU50 The use of a soak in soap and water is generally not an accepted practice for numismatic coins. The use of a soak in pure Acetone is acceptable practice to get rid of contaminants on numismatic coins. There are a number of threads on this site how to use Acetone. I generally leave coins alone unless there is an obvious reason that the coin needs attention. For example, if a coin had active PVC, I would remove the PVC. More and more collectors are wanting original looking examples.

I understand and wouldn't have even mentioned a soap soak if this was anything more than a common Morgan. I do have a bit more valuable Morgan coming up in the next 20 or so coins (an 1886S Morgan)that has some obvious PVC residue and so will look up those threads you mentioned ..... thanks for the advice on that.
