erafjel Pillar of the Community Sweden 2124 Posts	Posted 03/31/2020 6:18 pm These are charge coins (also called credit coins), given by stores to customers having an account in the store. The coin would be presented at a purchase and the account with the indicated number charged. A kind of predecessor to credit cards, if you like. The left one is from John Wanamaker Department Store in Philadelphia. The right one is from Lit Brothers Department Store, also in Philadelphia. Report this Post to the Staff

Credit or debit cards, contactless payments all go to make life easier. But 100-130 years ago? In Philadelphia, a gentleman would have flashed the account fob on his watch chain.
