Hi, just wondering if you feel that this 1943 copper Wheat penny is authentic or not? Thanks.

I can see the coin is a 1943-S, not a 1943 Philly.

I think it may be a cast fake that has been "antiqued" to look aged.

3.1 grams is the correct weight for a 1943 copper Wheat penny.

I am pretty sure it's just a well made fake.
Errers and Varietys.

Did you clean it between taking the two pictures? I doubt it is genuine, but if it is cleaning it would take a horrendous bite out of the value!

Can you post pics of the coin (not in the 2X2), also a close-up of the date / mint mark

Coin frog, it looks authentic to you?
No I did not clean it. It was owned by my grandfather before me.

I cannot provide any more pictures since I do not own a camera or cell phone.
Why do some of you guys doubt it's real? You do not comment, you just say you doubt it's real.

If this was genuine, this would be worth well in excess of $100,000. Unfortunately the Chinese have made fakes of just about every rare coin out there. You can look at the 40 thieves website, they have loads of fakes all for a few dollars each. Every month we see fake Bust dollars and fake Trade dollars.

Agree, the odds of this being a genuine coin are remote at best. I can only suggest the OP take this to a reputable coin dealer and pay for submission to a major grading service. Otherwise, speculation will be endless and pointless given the detail available on this coin for analysis.
