Hi everyone, I'm back. I was looking at my father's 1974 D half dollar coin and I'm just curious... Is this what you call a double die? I'm trying to get use to all the different types of errors/normal and distinguish between what's beautiful and what's not. That way I can go through a Very Big suitcase FULL of coins. My father was a harder. So if you could help me, I would be eternally grateful.

I am kinda new myself but I had similar questions about Doubling. You should rotate the coin under a USB Scope and see the doubling for every position of the rotation. It is hard to tell in the image you have. I am sure someone with more experience will have a more detailed answer.

Sorry, the picture is too small. We need to see closer pics of the area you believe you see doubling. Also, the 1974-W is a very readily seen doubled die. Do a search on this forum to see pics of a 1974-D doubled die. The date is the main place to look for this specific date/coin.

You will get more help posting in the U.S. Modern Variety And Error Coins subforum, and posting larger, and more detailed pictures there.

Yes. Thank you all of you for your help. I'm still trying to figure out how to make picture fit and post them. It's confusing. So there is no way anyone can zoom up on the pictures that are posted?
