I'm thinking maybe this is the results of a clashed die. In the word trust, on the T there is an E struck on top of it. Looking at it through my loop I think the word America is struck under it.and through it.if you expand and zoom in you can clearly see the E through the T.the rest is pretty hard to see.

You can see the E on the top pic without even enlarging it

Really, I can clearly see an E. On top of that T. You really can't see that. I know my eyes can't be making that up.

The question is: "How could a single letter be altered. If there is a letter and another letter is supposed to be on top of it, where are all the other devices that should also be there?" Letters are not put on the dies added to the die singly since the 18 th century. The original dies were pretty much all separate creations. They give these dies Overton numbers. Then the gang punches were used to keep the numbers in the right locations. Eventually all the devices, designs were all placed on to the die. 1908 is the last year for a miss placed date happened. With the Lincoln cents all of this was put together onto one die, except for the mintmarks. 1990 Was the first year the die contained the mintmark as part of the die. So how could you have one device over another device, with out the rest of the devices also showing? Using a double struck coin as an example, you will understand that all the other devices would also be showing if it is a letter over letter on your coin:

2001-D-LMC-Found-It-Last-Night. So my question is to you:"Where all the other devices on both sides of the coin that should be there if there is a letter over a letter. Also note on the examples above. A lot of the pre devices are now flattened. The second strike ones are raised. On your coin where are those other devices? The design is always copied from the die. If the device you are seeing is there, does if copy a known device in shape? The brain try to make sense out of anything, when the information is not always correct. Its like a dream, while your dreaming it makes total sense. The next day when you try to describe the dream it makes no sense at all. The brain always work to make sense, even of the things we see.
