Hey guys, I need some help identifying this 1859 Penny. From the pictures I've found on the net, I believe this to be the 9/8 variety. Hoping someone who is more knowledgeable and experience than me to either confirm or let me know the correct version of this Year. Once again thank you guys, I'm new to this forum (few days in) and so far you guys have been great in helping me learn, during this pause of life, I'm using this time to learn and organize my collection so I appreciate all the info so I can properly label my coins correctly. Cheers, Ray

thanks for the link fourmack, but I'm having a hard time understanding the page. So what is P4b mean? I have so much to learn. So this a normal 1859 then?
Thanks,
Ray

Looks like PC59-213, obverse 65a and reverse P4b with "Vicky gunk".

Thanks guys, never knew there so many variations, that link was very detailed but I now have an understanding on how to identifying the coin. Thank god I only have 3 1859's, so I have more work to do to identify the other 2.
One more question, does this apply to all Vickys or just the 1859 years?
Thanks in Advance,
Ray

BTW RayOOOO it's not a penny, it's a large cent. In 1859 and for many years after the cent circulated in Canada alongside actual Pennys and Halfpennys. The cent was equivalent to the Halfpenny and after confederation the large cent was actually struck on Halfpenny blanks.

When you're getting started on the 1859's, it helps to read Dr. Haxby's article from his website about how he organized and cataloged the 1859 narrow 9's. https://www.vickycents.com/prime.html
