Going through my proof Kennedy's I came across this one that doesn't have the proof like finish but to me and I've done my research, I believe to be a 1964 sms Kennedy. Everything I've read and researched has me positive it's an sms.

What I'm understanding with the designation of/for SMS, it applies for the years 1965, 66 and 67...others?

It has same features as the 65 sms and at the same time it's different from the accented hair. It has a droplet under the 4 broken rays, all die marks are present on the coin from the 1964 "SMS" kennedy. Maybe I'm just hyped up about a weird finished 64 proof

If YOU think it's an SMS 1964 coin then by all means send it in for authentication and grading.

We can hypothesize about this coin till the cows come home and at the end of the day it'll still need to be sent it for a definitive answer.

A closer and better focused picture of the date would be helpful, as coinjunky says, there is a marker on the 4.

to CCF. Looks like a normal strike to me. This might help, (scroll down the page for info ) https://www.PCGS.com/coinfacts/coin...50c-sms/6844 also If you type 1964 sms half dollar in the search box upper left of page there is a ton of useful info.

Thank you all for the helpful info. I also have what I believe to be a WRPM-007 1964 D/D Washington 25C pics later today. I'll do my best with the quality of pics. Get this I'm a silver member of PCGS since sep"19" and have yet to send a coin in.

posting good pictures is the hardest thing to master - I too am a member of PCGS and have yet to submit. As far as the identification of your coin, it does not hang from the crosslet of the 4 but it does appear to be there. Hence if you are right, it would be a good investment in using your coupon for a free submission.

Here's the "tail" on the crosslet of the 4 on a 1964 SMS Kennedy half. All of the SMS Kennedy half dollars have this small die mark.
