I am looking at buying from large coin companies, and would like to know if the average circulation rolls by decade are worth buying. Do they have enough variety to make it worthwhile? Are the wheat cents in decent condition? Thanks.

You can bet they have been searched through for the better dates/grades.

You can if you want to fill in the easy dates in your coin folder, but don't expect to find anything worth more than $1 in the rolls.

60 cents per roll, OK. $1, a few for fun. Any more than $1, no.

Quote: Any more than $1, no. You can sell wheat rolls for a couple buck each, so it's highly unlikely you'll be able to buy them for less than a dollar. But it's also unlikely that you'll find anything worth the cost of the roll, unless you're trying to start a circulated set.

Skip the large companies and buy from estate sales, garage sales, pawn shop kind of places. But,there is still a good chance they have been searched. Good luck with your hunt. Wheat cent value is 2-2.5¢ each for the 1940's and 50's. 3¢ 1930's and maybe 4¢ for 20's and teens...on average. John1

A coin shop in my area sells wheat cents for .06 each. They always have a couple medium-size buckets to draw from. Once in a great while I'll buy several hundred--just for fun. The mix has been decent--mostly 40s and 50s, but an acceptable number of teens through 30s too. Very few culls and surprising number of S-mints. Have found a few strong lamination peels, woodys, and nice die cracks.

I agree with John - go hunting locally at garage and estate sales and stay away from ebay.

An all around answer to your question is No . The whole world collects wheat cents The rolls you see advertised look tempting but rest assured they've been searched and researched 10 times over . Nobody is going to give away decent date and mint Wheaties for 2 to 6 cents each .

You have to assume that the coin rolls have already been searched for anything of value. However, if you are a variety collector it might be worth your while to buy a few rolls and give it a look.

No roll of mixed wheat cents is the same as another roll. No valid statement can be made that any particular roll is "worthwile".

I bought a roll of wheaties from ebay once. It was a disappointment.

For perspective, I'm old enough to remember when the ONLY cents in circulation were wheats, along with a few Indians. Even back then, bag searching was a tedious and seldom productive effort.

Even with a generous amount of R/B late 40's & 50's with an occasional nice red , anything before that was usually still well circulated with issues .
