This one is in a straight graded NGC holder so in their judgement the toning was natural. Another example where coin was probably against edge of the bag or in an old Whitman album which toned only one side. Scratches near the top are on the plastic case, not the coin.

I'd give it an MS 62. I would grade higher if those scratches on the back weren't there.

I think they were generous and gave it a 63 because of eye appealing colors.

Nice looking MS-64. Might even get a + for the eye appeal.

MS 63 on this nice, most likely bag toned piece.

Dark on the front, white on the reverse, I'd definitely say it spent a lot of time in a Whitman type album. I'm at MS-63. What did NGC grade it as?

The only deep gouge on the coin is on the eagle's breast. The rest of the chatter is largely surface contact marks. I could see MS-64, unless the slightly flattened rims at 12:00-1:00 on the obverse and rim dings at 11:00 on the reverse pull this one down to MS-63. I think it's a bourse floor 64. Great eye appeal. That toning took a lot of time to develop.

MS-64, with a possible * for eye appeal. Nice color, but the toning isn't fancy enough to bring a big premium IMO.

I paid a modest premium for the toning, but nothing exorbitant - an extra $60 or so over fair market value for the grade.
