I got this 1983 P Kennedy half dollar today coin roll hunting got couple rolls on the way home at the bank got home open them I knew something was wrong especially when I seen D mint mark where it was positioned on the coin and just the way the coin felt itself throwing it on other coins in the actual sound of the coin was just way off Edited by JMart 05/13/2020 8:09 pm

If you trying to listen for a clad silver or silver sound, it would not be in this coin. Weigh the coin, 1983 D Denver, real common. Hope this helps, oh by the way, I don't think it is fake . Have a good day and be safe Bob

I believe the Mint was still hand punching Mint marks in 1983, so there can be a variance in the MM position. Post up a weight, but it looks genuine in your pictures.

Can we get a close-in photo of the edge--directly at the reeding?

Quote: 10.49 g and when I try and hit it, it makes a hollow sound That does seem light. Hollow? Is that a seam around the rim on the reverse?

Its difficult to tell from your reverse pic, but the circumference looks somewhat suspect. It reminds me of the double headed magician quarter I found CRH'ing. On mine, under magnification its easy to see where it was milled out & it also makes a hollow sound. But as John1 eluded to, why would someone bother to fake your coin?

Not really sure, but could be a Magicians coin. These have a push-out reverse that can be flipped over to another coin. Can be very hard to push out the reverse, but they do sound hollow and just have a totally different feel in hand. I've got maybe a dozen of them, so not super rare thing to find.

I agree. You can see the altered rim edge on the reverse. So it is a real coin, but altered. Looks like glue on the rim area. Why? Why not. I've heard that you can put them in a glass and shake it side to side and the added might come off. But I think I see glue on your coins edge.
