I enjoyed holding a 1000th post contest a couple years ago, and I've decided to hold another contest for my 2000th post. The two prizes will be mint state silver commemorative half dollars, including the 1946-D Booker T Washington and the 1952-P Washington-Carver pictured below. I'll post the rules of the contest tomorrow morning--it will require some skill and knowledge, and perhaps a little bit of luck. To be eligible, you'll need at least 50 posts, and I'll only ship prizes to the USA. Get ready! Edited by Zurie 05/22/2020 10:20 am

Quote: Ok I'm ready , now what ? Gotta build the drama! Okay, here we go. Below are photos of eight coins. The challenge is to determine which coins are counterfeit and which are genuine. Assume all coins are non-magnetic, and all weights and dimensions are correct. The first member who determines correctly which coins are counterfeit gets their choice of the commemorative halves, and the second member who gets them all right will get the other coin. Post your numbered guesses on this thread, but please don't explain your reasoning so that everyone has an equal chance. I'll post the answers at the end of the contest. There are indicators that will identify the fakes, but some of them are not very easy, so feel free to guess if you aren't sure. If there aren't two winners by the end of the day, you can have a second set of guesses tomorrow. Good luck! 1. 1876-S Trade dollar 2. 1840 Large cent 3. 1900-S Half eagle 4. 1893-O Morgan dollar 5. 1911-P Quarter eagle 6. 1909-S-VDB Lincoln Cent 7. 1937-D Buffalo 3-legged 8. 1942/41 Mercury dime

Well, so far no one has gotten all 8 right, although one person got 6 out of 8 correct, which is really quite good. Starting tomorrow morning, I will reveal the answer to one coin each day, so there will be fewer unknowns to deal with. Within a few days it should be much easier and we'll get our two winners.
