From the Morgan dollar page Weight: 26.73 grams Diameter: 38.1 millimeters It does look like it was cleaned in the past.

As stated spec was 26.73 grams tolerance was +/- .097 grams. Your coin is MORE than 2 grams light (around 21 times the allowed tolerance) and it is not extremely worn. Chances of it being real are pretty much zero.

Details are off, such as date digits which aren't properly shaped. As Condor says, the weight alone is enough to confirm counterfeit status.

easy to figure out, where did you buy it, and how much did you pay for it? it's easily a 1,000$ coin in that condition,, but you already know it is fake..

I have a genuine 1889 CC, and that coin is without question 100% FAKE.

Thanks for all your help guys! I did pick it up for 40$ on ebay, I took a chance. The guy was a new seller who just listed the item and it was coming from Mar Del Plata, Argentina. At least I didn't blow like 200 on it. Though I wonder why somebody would go through all that effort to create a counterfeit just to sell it for 40 dollars. Guess I should go complain to ebay at this point.

Is there a chance for returning the item? From Argentina, I'm guessing no. We've all fallen victim to some sort of coin problem so don't let it get you down. You've found a great place in CCF to avoid this in the future - don't hesitate to get input from the experts in the various areas before spending big money on anything.
I've found that someone will counterfeit ANYTHING that they think they can make a dollar with. And, at the very least, you have a counterfeit Morgan to use for educating other new collectors in the future.

Quote: Though I wonder why somebody would go through all that effort to create a counterfeit just to sell it for 40 dollars. The coin is a Chinese counterfeit and there are millions of Chinese counterfeits on the market. The question you should be asking is why someone would sell a $1000 + coin for $40?
