I am a newbie and as I started to delve more and more into the hobby the more I noticed that low mintage coins held the highest value. I saw that the 2020 Silver Dollars had an Emergency Production of only 240,000 and went ahead and bought several NGC First Day of Issue, MS70 signature series with Jones and Mercanti. The price was a little high but I went with my gut feeling.
Is the NGC signature series MS70 Emergency Production, First Day of Issue a true collector's coin, or did I make a huge mistake buying a gimmick?

I think its a gimmick, its just an ASE. There is nothing special about these, they look exactly like the W ones. But if you like them, its good for you. In the end we all collect what we like. If you purchased them for an investment, I would say that you shouldn't purchase coins as an investment.

I agree with the gimmick theme but they look like (are exactly the same) as every other of the 10's of million bullion coins from 2020 (not burnished W's) For reference...the last 4 or so years of W ASE's have a mintage of less than the 240k reported of the discussed bullion coin and the premium for those is not astronomical. The Mercanti sig adds some value IF it's an actual signature and not machine generated...but not that much Just my opinion Edit: oops: ....

I bought a bunch in 2016 and 2017. I got about 200 different ones graded most 70's some 69's. I don't buy them no more also they can form ugly spots over time. No one told me when I bought them but I am responsible for my actions. I got some real fancy label ones then I found out you should buy the coin and not the label. But I still have them and their pretty! But I don't buy them no more. Only you can control your destiny stay safe wash your hand! #128567;

There is a niche of collectors who are into the various labels on ASE. If that group is your happy place in the hobby, remember that it is your collection. But as others have said, if investment and ROI are primary considerations, be very cautious if the value is in the piece of paper moreso than the coin. That being said, investing in coins in general is rather risky. "Safe" advice is to consider numismatics as a hobby. Best of luck in your collecting!

Completely agree with @Collects82. Collect what makes you happy and be wary of labels. Bust that coin out of the plastic and there is no way to know if it was minted at P or W so....
