I have had this 1890 Indian Head cent Double Strike for many years. A long time ago (70s) I had a dealer look at it and he said they were too common to have much value. Lately I've seen some not as dramatic as mine going for pretty good prices. I don't want to sell it yet. But I want to know if it has value and if It would be worth it to send it in for grading and slabbing.

Thanks.

Best I could do with pictures at this time.

Super cool coin. Not sure grading it would help increase the value much since the condition isn't what makes it interesting. Maybe an IHC specialist can provide a better answer.

That's super interesting. Grading would help as to verify the authenticity of the error. Would make a buyer feel more comfortable and confident that he or she was buying a legitimate error. GrapeCollects is a great resource for this kind of thing.

I would highly recommend you send it in to verify authenticity. If authenticated I would not be surprised to see it auction for the high hundreds of dollars. but I personally would probably not bid on an error with this value without it being authenticated, and I believe so would many other potential bidders.

That was sort of my thinking too. I doubt if it would grade very high but getting it verified and slabbed might improve its future sale ability. I am a member of PCGS since I had to join to get my Enhanced Reverse Proof ASE graded and slabbed. (BTW it was a 69).

Appreciate the feedback.

Common? These are very rare birds! If authentic it will bring a substantial premium....hundreds! Great piece!

That's a truly wonderful coin. Glad to see it back. Not only is this a scarce error, but the eye appeal is wonderful. The smooth chocolate brown surfaces along with the strong secondary images are extremely attractive and would be a big part in the premium this coin would bring at sale. Normally I'd value this at around $300-325, though given the eye appeal I'd say this could fetch as high as $400.
