I'm new to collecting and I found an interesting 1964 Jefferson nickle with an error. I was hoping ya'll could give me an idea of what I have and possibly a ballpark value. I appreciate it.

to the CCF! Nothing about this coin is a mint error. Post strike damage.

Sorry, but if you took an old nickel into the garage and played with it you could get similar results.

Take note how raised areas on the reverse side correspond to the pits on the front. This nickel was laid onto a hard surface, a nail with point cut off (or some other piece of metal that could be used as a punch) was put onto its face and hit with a hammer (or other object) to make the pits on the OBV.

I sincerely appreciate you guys taking the time to look at it and help me. And originally hat is what I thought as well. If that is the case though, could someone explain to me how the reverse of the coin appears to have been smudged? The reverse doesn't have raised areas, it's flat just smudged. I thought perhaps something was in way during strike.

Again I am 110% new to this stuff so I may just be retarded but no raised places just the chips outta obverse and smudged reverse

The flattened areas on the reverse are proof that it is damaged. If something happened to the obverse while it was in the dies, the reverse die would be in place and prevent the reverses of the coin from being flattened.
