I have had this penny for at least 15 years. I always thought it was a badly scratched up penny and just tossed it in the pile with the others. I recently took a closer look under magnification and was surprised to see reverse lettering on the reverse. Anyhoo just thought I would put it up here and see what opinions are to be had. last one is a comparison to a regular penny. This one is very thin. Thanks.

@ra, first welcome to CCF. Second, it looks to me like two things have happened to this poor cent after leaving the mint. First, someone has removed all of the reverse design elements by abrading that surface. There are still numerous machining marks. Second, someone took another cent and pressed it against this one (typically done with a machinist's vise) and caused some of those design elements to appear on this coin, but backwards.

I agree with Spence. Deliberate post mint damage by grinding down of the reverse, then another coin was pressed into it, by vice or hammer. Certainly, no premium, and perhaps not even worth the 3 cents Wheaties normally bring.
