Found this years ago and was wondering if this would be a specific mint error, or someone having fun?

Thank you,

Thanks SilverDon. Appreciate your input!
I thought it might be but not sure if there were any particular mint process that could have caused it. Thanks.

Looks like someone, for some reason, put a small hole saw on the quarter and hit it with a hammer (more than once). Circular marring on the REV seems to coordinate with this theory also.

Thank you all for your comments, I would agree with the hole saw theory, however the marring on the reverse didn't seem consistent with the pressure and weight on the obverse. As the main damage on the reverse was lower to the wings higher structure seems very odd.

Nice penny Coop! I know someone that has one but, but it's a Lincoln. :) Still trying to figure out a way to get hold of it.

The quarter looks like it was damaged with a bottle cap off a soda/beer/? that was pressed or hammer onto the coin.

Hi coop, thanks for your reply. Would tend to agree with your bottle cap theory although it would have to be a smaller than normal bottle cap. I guess bottle caps come in all sizes too. :)

Hi CoinFrog, Thanks for chiming in. :)
Now that we have determined a hammer and a bottle cap may have been the culprit, would it be protocol to delete this topic?
Thanks.

No. It could be useful for other collectors to know what can happen. This forum is on going. Removing the images removes the images, but the conversation might be helpful for further educational purposes.
