Looks like you've done a great job! Finding an Indian penny in circulation is no small task. As to their value, I would suggest buying a copy of the RedBook. I usually get one that's a year or two old at the used bookstore... It will give you an idea of what your coins are worth and it will also give you an idea of what coins to hunt for.

Not weird at all. There are several roll hunting threads throughout this forum- go to the modern coin topic heading and you'll see threads for JFK, Jefferson nickels, FDR dimes and Washington quarters. Some folks do roll hunting as their primary means of accumulating their collection. It's inexpensive, it's fun and allows for searching for rare varieties in unsearched coins. Keep it up!

since I don't collect anything that is in circulation I have bought every coin I have in my collection unless they were given to me by someone else

You might want to edit your title to reflect proper spelling, I thought you were referring to BIE Lincolns And yes, I do buy many coins. However, many people start out by roll searching so you only "buy" coins for face value that way If you are happy assembling a collection that way, there is nothing wrong with it. Of course, you might eventually develop a taste for collecting something that is not easily found by roll searching so you will have no choice but to purchase coins at that point.

Hi Wheatnut Welcome to the Forum !
I fixed the title for you.
It sounds like you have done well from roll searching .
I still roll search and enjoy the time I spend doing that ,I also buy coins which I have a deep relationship with ,including Wheat and memorial cents ,mercury dimes and seated 1/2 dimes and dimes .
In the last year or two I have spread out into world coins and truely enjoy some of the designs which can be found on those .
The type of coins collected is only limited by any limitations you set for yourself .
your welcome to look through my gallery , just click the link in my sigline .

Those are some very nice circulation finds! I also find "the hunt" is the most satisfying part of collecting, although I usually hunt at dealers. I have found a few of the wide AMs in bank boxes...but your finds are more interesting. I think you'll enjoy seeing all the great coins people get from the bank. Be sure to post pics.

Most of my coins have come from circulation, but I do buy coins as well, like modern proofs. Also, there are some coins that I want/need that are unlikely to be found in circulation, like certain LHC key dates!

About 1/5th of my collection I've picked out of circulation or been given by friends or relatives. The rest I've bought.
As I'm mainly into world coins, most of the actual "quantity" of coins I've bought has been in the form of bulk lots of mixed world coins. Probably about 1/4 of the collection has been the "quality" stuff, bought as single coins from dealers and other sellers.

Nothing is weird n this forum and I find it amazing how someone can collect so much from circulation, because I have not found that much to jump up and down about yet. I know I go back and forth but most of mine are bought, I do not have a big budget so I try to search for coins that seem to be a perfect price and impossible to pass up. If you are interested in buying coins, and have never been to a coin store, I would suggest hat you go and check it out. I have lucked out on some 'starter sets' that I have been able to buy for almost nothing and getting some containers/holders for your coins may be another thing to look into.

Everyone has to do his or her own thing. There is no 'correct' way to collect. AS long as you are having fun, go for it. Also, pick up a copy of "the Guide Book of US coins' by R.S. Yeoman, edited by Ken Bressett. It'll give you a lot of info that isn't easily available elsewhere. Go for it!

After almost 20 years of school, teaching myself, a relative that speaks numerous langurages, I just never worry about spelling. If you can understand me, fine. If not, your loss. As to those coins. Nice start. Way, way back almost all my coins came from change, relatives, neighbors. Of course after over 60 years now those are drying up a lot. So now it's mostly coin shows and yes, you have to buy them there. Not that the relatives, friends and neighbors wouldn't give me any, they are just all sort of gone.
