1940 Mercury Dime W Possible Die Break.

Hello and Greetings,

Would like to know thoughts on the line through the date, Mint Mark W and the "Y". Is it a die break?
1940-Mercury-Dime-W-Possible-Die-Break.

That W is not a mint mark, it's the designers initials (AW= Adolph Weinman) Your coin is damaged. It's a scratch. The coin is silver, worth about $2.00
