I purchased a few proof sets and the 1971 proof set LMC has an awkward S MM I cannot determine if it is a machine strike or a secondary S under the primary and an RPM?

Is this a candidate: From doubleeddie : The mint mark is an RPM (S/S North) listed in the Wexler RPM Files as WRPM-005 (CONECA RPM #3), part of 1971-S 1¢ Pr WDDO-001 "Best Of" Variety, with a FS-01-1971S-101 (032) citation also.

Nice find!
Just from the pic at:

Your pic looks, to me, more like the RPM-010.

The doubling is on the top on the 010. I'm not seeing that on this coin. Note on that site that most of these RPMs are showing mintmark punch damage on the central and lower areas of the loops. So I feel it is not a RPM.

Thanks @Coop, I will update here after getting a new photo setup, as the initial photo did not capture the top of the S as seen in the 010 from VV.
