PCGS - The 2011-P 9/11 National Medals were produced in remembrance of the events that took place ten years prior. The obverse features Lady Liberty with two vertical beacons of lights, symbolizing the immeasurable loss of September 11, 2001 and also the resiliency and triumph of those who were preserved.

The reverse depicts a landing eagle with the inscriptions, "Honor and Hope." Symbolizing the strength of the survivors, their families and the Nation. In the background is a backdrop of cascading water. Symbolizing peace, serenity, healing and the continuation of life.

I wasn't a fan of this design when it came out but it has grown on me a bit over the years. Hard to believe next year will be 20 years.

They released this medal shortly after I became actively involved in numismatics, but at the time it was out of my price range. It's a nice tribute and I like the design, so hopefully I can pick up one of the two mint marks at some point.

I can't believe it either.

I think I will add it too at some point, but I'll wait for silver prices to come down.

I agree. Of course, my overall appreciation for medals has changed a lot in the last nine years. I might have to find one of these at the next coin show, whenever that is (maybe in the spring).
