I have a double-headed Washington quarter. One head is marked 1985. The other head is a bit off center marked 1980 (the 1980 is clipped and "Liberty" is clipped. Does this quarter have any value?

Nope, that is an altered trick coin that was created with two different quarters machined so they fit together. if you look at it with a magnifier, you should be able to see a seam.

BTW,

Hi and Welcome!

Yep that sounds like the typical " Magician's coin", as they are called. In this case, it is probably one that is made so that a coin toss has a guaranteed winner:-) They are considered a novelty item with no numismatic value. They often can be purchased at magic shops for between $5.00 and $10.00.

Thanks,
Bill

Thanks all for the responses! Technically, then should this be used as a quarter? I received it as change but given what's been said, I'm thinking I shouldn't pass it on.

Because they look like normal coins they accidentally get spent. You could loose on this coin if you kept calling tails. LOL

The pieces used to make your little work of art are genuine, so there are no 'issues' with you being able to legally spend it. I wouldn't; these usually bring a few dollars at shows and online. No reason to give away profit on someone else's effort.

I recently bought a 1982P ( on both sides ) Heads Heads nickel and I love it.
I knew it was altered of course, but it is so well done. Even the busts of Jefferson are in the same position on both sides and it is UNC.
Only under 10x magnification can I tell which side is the outer coin.
I wish I had bought the 1964 Half at the same time. That would be at least a silver coin and it looked as well faked.
It is just an addition to my collection as a novelty. But well worth the 7.50 I paid for it.

I have a 2-headed 1964 Kennedy half. Put it on a gram scale. That will tell you all you need to know!
