VF-30 if it straight grades. TPG's are generally pretty lenient on this one, but I would call this VF Details due to the obverse scratches/scrape at K12.

Nice key date Mercury dime! I am a bit inexperienced with mid-grade Mercury dimes, but my first instinct would be to guess VF Details (scratched), as the scratches seem pretty distracting. I had one in an old green PCGS VG(10) holder, but it was really worn, with no details on the wings visible. I like yours very much in that we can actually appreciate one of America's most amazing designs. Either way, great specimen of a highly sought after date!

It's too bad about the shabby obverse but the coin has a lot going for itself for a 16-D . VF-30 sounds right .

you rarely see 16D's at this grade level anymore. thank you for posting it.
for me there is way too much meat on the bones for a VF coin. the detail in the hair above the forehead is typically flat for a VF coin. the hairline on the forehead seems to be fully defined. the lettering is also sharper with minor wear. the rods on the fasces on the reverse are fully separated, sharp lettering and almost complete diagonal bands for me puts this coin at XF40.
the obverse scratches maybe detailed the coin especially since it went to PCGS. knowing them I would say they graded it VF details but there is some leniency when it comes to difficult to find coins at this grade. I would put this in my collection any day and it's the only coin I'm missing in this set

This is one of those coins that if you sent it in they would be very picky and "details" it. If the big auction house (or volume submission dealer) sent it in they get a pass and a straight grade. (Yes, I'm a still a conspiracy believer when it comes to TPG services!) VF 30 in spite of the minor issues in my eyes. Nice original coin in my opinion. Congrats!

Most likely this is a VF-35, but I wouldn't be surprise if it grade as a EF-40.

Beat up and likely net-graded into a straight holder. There is a lot of meat on the coin though; On wear alone it's a 40. Surely netted down to 35 and maybe even 30 if they hit the problem obverse hard.

I agree with those thinking it has enough meat for an EF-40. Obviously they took points away for the small marks. A monster coin, congrats!
