So today I picked up this one. It is Nova Scotia token NS-20A3 according to Charlton. But if you look closley you can see it is an overstruck. Most clear around the date 1813, you can aware London. Anyone an idea what the original token/coin it was? There is also an overstruck mentioned on coins and canada, that looks similar.   |

You nailed it. Most NS-20's, along with many other tokens of that time period, are struck over 1811 Bristol Tokens for Samuel Guppy's Sheathing Nail Manufactory

Couldn't help myself fortcollins, haha  Here's an example of NS-20A1 in my collection that is similarly struck over a Bristol penny,  and a Wellington token (WE-2B2) struck over a Bristol halfpenny. The overstrike does not show as well in this example but is noticeable on the obverse head and the reverse lettering.  Wade, that is a super nice 1813 eagle! Edited by blargish

Several years ago I posted a query concerning such overstruck tokens.
If the overstrike is pristine and shewing no evidence of wear, but the host token
is trashed, what grade does it deserve. Why should the condition of the host token be taken into consideration when grading. The over-strike is as struck.

I would assume that the grade of the host should have nothing to with the grade of the restrike.
It wouldn't matter if the host was G or MS, however an MS strike might show through the restrike more promenentally.
Personally I prefer a more of the host showing and although it wouldn't change the grade it definately adds value (to me)
