I would call this MS-66+, but if it is CACd then I'm guessing PCGS went MS-66 and it got the green bean.

Beautiful. I'd think 66 would be a layup.

the 81(S) are normally sharp and bold. I see just a hair weak above the ear and some weakness in the breast. the luster appears to be unbroken on both sides. surface preservation is excellent. I count about 6-7 minor abrasions/marks total. the eye appeal is AVG+.
since these are common coins I would think PCGS is going to be a little tougher on it. I think PCGS gave it an MS66 and imo this coin should be in a MS67 holder

Tough to call on higher end dollars without seeing the cartwheel and luster in hand, but not very many marks, certainly nothing bad, a few light scuffs, I could see this coin going MS67 though I think it's a reach for any higher with just these static photos to grade off, so I'll say MS67, though a MS66+ wouldn't surprise me either. Anything lower than a 66 would.
I pretty much agree with panzaldi's assessment too.

A Morgan dollar, dated 1881-S, is the best chance to obtain in high grade, and this is a very nice example! I will guess high at MS-67+

oops! I wasn't paying attention to the original date this thread was posted. I honestly was grading this on my own and the whiskey got me almost spot on with the grade. Congrats goes out to fenton on obtaining a very nice Morgan dollar!
