This coin is absolutely a large beads type. It becomes as clear as night and day when you start taking notice of the coins relief instead of counting the beads. Not to mention this coin has more luster than any small beads dollar I've ever seen because the small beads dollars were struck off of a proof-like obverse die.

I'm pretty sure it's a small bead dollar, but it means nothing now because someone already snared it away. (someone from here?) The proof-like die was used for only the reverse side of the coin.

Large Beads, the "A" in REGINA points directly to a bead, witch means the I in REGINA should point directly beside a bead.
The small bead has an I that points directly to a bead and the A would point beside one.
Thats how I go about checking other than counting them.

Dollarman is 100 per cent right . All you need to do ......look at the relief. This pictured coin is an absolute lock as a regular 18 dollar bullion piece . Once you have handled a 1966 Small bead Dollar , you will never mistake It again. A Diagnostic is one side will always be business strike , the other Side Prooflike .

I agree, large beads.
Similar to Dollarman, I just look at the size of the beads...can another bead fit in-between them? If not, then it's a large bead.

Actually Johnny, even easier than that is to get accustomed to the differences in the Large Beads(high relief) and small beads(low relief) designs..the whole look of the coin is usually different. A large beads coin in my opinion has more life and beauty to it than a flat, low relief small beads coin. It's an identical situation to the 1953 NSF(high relief) and SF(low relief) Coinage.

I suspect that the confusion here may be from the marker identified on CoinsandCanada. If talks about the I of Regina and on that basis this looks small. Maybe their marker is wrong.
Personally, I do not like using something like relief or strike quality for identifying the size or count of beads. This seems very counterintuitive. If the beads are smaller or fewer or more in number then count them or measure them. It is worth it for a coin of this value rather than just assuming they must all have a strike like the others.

Thx 47P7. But I am still looking at the original photo from the ebay listing and I see a dead straight line through the I. Photos can be very deceiving and maybe the line is not dead centre or maybe the photo is making the beads look a little bigger than they are due to lighting. Regardless, my gut feel is that we have to wait for Papeldog to get the coin and give us some quality photos. The beads on the west side of the obverse do not look small. I am on the fence. The I marker looks good but the beads at the west do not.

Thanks for all the thought's and opinions its greatly appreciated.
I'm still hoping with my fingers crossed that its a small bead dollar if not its (still bullion silver) not a big loss on my part, if its a small bead dollar its a great treasure.
I'll post what it is when it arrives with more pictures of obverse and reverse.

Papeldog... good luck with this one... I touch wood.... they are still out there...same as the diving goose... still some out there... remember how I found my last one... PapelDog and others take a 1965 SB dollar (SB-P5-T1 or SB B5-T2) and compare the obv. you will know immediately. if it is the same obv YOU have a winner.
