At first glance, it appears to be damage caused by contact with the reeded edge of another coin--the edge 'rolling' along (under some pressure/force) for a distance. Those reeded edges on fresh Ikes could be rather 'sharp'. Anyway, others will come along and weigh-in.

It looks to have been struck through reeding which is a quite nice and scarce error. Here is a similar example:

That would be a massive contact mark. It bears some resemblance to struck through reeding but not enough that I'm confident saying that is what it is.

I'm in the struck-through camp too. With a contact mark of that size, I would expect to see at least a little displaced metal.

I've seen stuff like this happen before:
1977-Eisenhower-Dollar-Indents-On-Reverse?
1977-Eisenhower-Dollar-Indents-On-Reverse?
1977-Eisenhower-Dollar-Indents-On-Reverse?
And a unique struck through:

A piece of split off die.
