Both are just hits that displaced the metal. Just minor damage.

We see a lot of US cents with centrally-directed linear displacement of the outermost letter/number in the inscriptions (i.e. also the L of LIBERTY). We generally attribute this mechanical damage to the use of gumball machines, where the mechanism tended to "smush" the coin in this way.
