Greetings!
There is no damage to the plating where this gouge appears on this quarter. It doesn't look like post mint damage to me because the rest of the quarter is perfect, pretty much. But I defer to you guys. What do you think?

Looks like damage. Are the pieces of that area attached or loose?

Can I ask where and how you acquired the coin?

It doesn't look like a normal hit, if there is such a thing.

The area above and to the left of the T almost looks like some type of struck thru, in conjunction with those (what looks like) cuts in the metal.

Could be struck through gritty grease, but the other scratches around LIBERTY seem to make post strike damage more likely.

I think this is very likely some type of struck through.

The scratches could easily be coincidental, every coin in circulation will have some scratches or damage if you look close enough. I'm not seeing any obvious displaced metal in/around the questioned area, so I don't think the scratches are related.

I have been saving all of my change for years and just started to finally go thru it, so I acquired thru regular old cash transactions. I'll try to take better pictures and post

I suspect strike through. The obverse alone is showing some dings and scratches.

Okay, thanks. Thought you may have found it in a new roll.

Still looks like some type of struck thru to me and possible damage/hit after the fact.

It could be a good thing if that's what someone is looking for. But probably mostly a bad thing.

Can you give us the weight of the coin?

Looks like a struck through or possibly a planchet flaw in the clad layer if that's possible?

The shallower area looks similar to Struck Through Grease.
