One part I do like.

"Just like the State Quarter program that has been so successful, the Presidential dollar coins bill is a win-win proposition. The presidential coins will teach history while generating revenue for the U.S. Treasury. I am also very excited that New York's most famous resident and most powerful symbol, Lady Liberty, will grace the back of each coin."

Other than that one side, this bill needs to die.

This is obviously going to be a choice of "is the glass half empty or half full". At least we'll get Liberty on the reverse. That's something, I guess.

Well Susan, that would be according to whay you call Liberty? I see the Statue of Liberty as a gift from France and a tourist attraction in New York. Liberty to me would be the Lady that graced all of our classic coins and that is where I would like to see a return.

Since it looks we will get stuck with every "Tom, Dick & Harry" for our future dollars coins, I broke down and bought what SHOULD be on the dollar coin:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...m=3959464953

I just got it last week and it is more beautiful in person than any picture. I look at it and just shake my head..."How could they past this up?

When I say "Liberty", I always mean the classic lady. Sorry if that offends anyone, but I have no desire to see the Statue of Liberty on coinage either.

Well not to ruffle any feathers but I am not a big fan of the so called "gold" dollar which for the most part never captured the public's fancy and the only time I see them is when a government vending machine is dispensing them as change. So as far as I'm concerned, I would wish they would stop minting it. Now for the President spouses series, oh come on now and give me a break. How many people actually vote for the President based upon who his wife is or isn't and how democratic is it any way for throwing a wife on a coin. Sounds like royality/celebility type of thing to me. Now for the Presidential coins, sounds more like a medal series to me then a coin concept. I have to agree with Ed and say bring back the old school coin designs symbolizing freedom, justice and the American way. Of course the designs can be new and my only request is to have liberty being a babe. I never did find the Statue of Liberty to attractive and I saw that skirt alot while living downtown NYC in my younger and hipper days.
Hey Speedy "there you go again",RR.

Speedy, every member here is entitled to their opinion and none of us should ever expect everyone to agree (doesn't make for good conversation anyway if they did ). I personally would have liked to have seen the unedited version of your post. Numismatics has many different aspects and there are many ways to appreciate it. We all have our preferences and our dislikes. That's what makes forums like this one special - a place where everyone can voice their opinions and feel comfortable with it.

Well what I had said was--
It will be bad for our habby since there are R's and D's collectors and the R's will only want to collect the R's and the D's will only collect the D's...(I think everybody knows what R and D stands for) I know there would be a few I would want more than others...

The one thing that I appreciate the most about this Dollar series of coins is that I can ignore them all togather. As far as I'm concerned, they don't now, nor will they ever exist in my collection. The real beauty of this hobby is the free choice as to what to collect.

Speedy, I made a Ronald Regan quote that was made to Jimmy Carter at a debate "There you go again" was not meant as a slight to you but as a reflection on what you had said. Sorry but sometimes I forget my age and slightly off center reasoning. I actually thought you had made a good point.
You right OldDan but some of us just like to blow some smoke now and then and personally if someone is happy about the new coins power to them. Grab the joy when one can.

Keeping in mind that I'm completely against the Presidential dollars (and don't even get me started on the spouse gold coins), they would open up a whole new genre of collectors. As Speedy said, political affiliations could play a very large part in what coins become more collectable than others. Although I desperately hope that this plan is abandoned, it will be interesting to watch what the effect on the collector's market is.

I don't think we need more presidential coin series. And I would hope these wouldn't be included in mint sets and proof sets. No need to inflate the costs of purchasing a mint set as all I want is the regular issue coins.

As with all things the opinions on this subject will split somewhere close to the middle when all is said and done, as for me I will probly collect several of the Clinton pieces my guess is the Mint will find a way to make it one of the rarest and most collected,, what a sad thing that is !!!!
