I can say I finally checked this off the list. This is an important coin, not because it's some ultra rarity, but because with this coin I've now completed the nickels portion of my Type Set!

The 1866 Rays Nickel is a really difficult coin to be fair. Finding a fully struck example is almost impossible, and they usually sell for a fair premium, in this case I paid 30% over book price. But I finally have one. Aside from a bit of hairlines (not from cleaning) in the right obverse field the coin is very nice. What do you think PCGS graded it?

Yours is certainly much better than mine, an MS(62) that many on this forum graded as AU(58) due to a weak strike. Congratulations on your acquisition! I am less experienced than you, but I need to practice. MS(63) or MS(64).

Quite difficult to grade from these pictures, but I will have a go at it anyway, with some margin for error:
MS-62.

I can understand the degree of satisfaction you have in the completion of the nickels part of your set.

Is it the poor quality pictures or is there something wrong with the "S" in "TRUST" on the obverse and some of the denticles on the right side seem to be missing on the reverse.
Can't really tell for sure from the pics.

There is something wrong with that S.

Oh, Ok. Then with the weak strike on the reverse denticles and the few nicks here and there I'll say 62 (maybe a 63 though with the eye appeal)

photos are not the best Grape. based on these it looks like right around MS64. grease on die for the "S" issue? not sure.

i have a nice XF45 example of this one and its one of my favorites. its a challenge to find fully struck up examples of this coin especially the rays
