I have never seen one, but it looks like a very nicely done counterstrike. You can see the evidence of the force of the punch on the obverse. Someone crafted a punch that neatly fit into the centre design of the 1964 dollar.

It is a lot like the counterpunched 1967 dollars that were done a few years ago or the 1965 dollars that were fitted with a centre plug.

Here is a link to a recent sale of the 1965.

. The coin is probably a little bit cupped now too.

It looks as though there may be as many as 1000 out there. First time seeing one for me though.

If you can figure out what counterstamp catches peoples' eyes, you can make a bit of money.

I might have added that centre-plugged 1965 dollar to my collection.

That citadel coins 1967 dollar counterstamp is certainly interesting, but it did not sell (the starting bid was $125). However, it is not interesting enough to me to pay 6 times the going price for a regular dollar.

The issue price of the PL counterstamped Citadel Coins silver dollar was $100. They've sold for $300 plus. It was odd that one didn't sell.

47P7, your coin was issued by prolific counterstamp designer Mel Wacks. I've attached a link to a catalog of his counterstamps (yours is listed on page 14). Also, if you search for "Mel Wacks" on ebay, you'll see a number of them for sale.

thank you all,
the coin was listed, and is listed again, on German ebay.
It is not mine. I just cam across it because it struck me as odd.. did not look at it as a counter stamped coin
start price was Euro 40
