Not certain what's going on with the top edge, but on the obverse, near Liberty, deliberate post mint damage. Looks like someone took a chisel to it. Damage to top edge is probably related.

@merclover, that doesn't look like a lam to you? The reason for me asking is that parts of the letters of LIBERTY are still somewhat visible. I'm interested to see where we net out on this one as more folks weigh in.

It could be a lam, but looks more like pure damage to me. Wouldn't be the first time I'm wrong. The field looks chiseled to me.

I'm far from an expert but if it is a lamination it looks like another one under the E in CENT as well

I think it would be tough to cause that without shifting the letters of liberty around, so I'm thinking lamination. And if that's a lam, the edge might exhibit one as well.

100% lam error, I also see a lam crack (going off in the same angle of the lam around liberty) under the UST of TRUST...rim issue might be a struck through copper foil edited: (....)

That's definitely a lamination flaw. Nice one.

I agree with it being a lamination of some sort. It's starting to peel as well. Pretty impressive find!

Bringing back for discussion, and I appreciate the insights provided, I was of the opinion that gas in the planchet burst out at the rim during the stamping, releasing the coin awkwardly, causing the lam peel out of the collar

Its a lamination. Not too sure on the rim. That looks like damage in one pic and possible lamination in another. LIBERTY for sure is a lamination

The rim area maybe a piece of debris on that area. The lower area looks like it was an attached lamination that is still attached and at one time was moved.
