David, how is the search going?
Also there is a package waiting for you in your post box. :)

Beginning 4 May 2016, I was on the same quest, although to keep my sanity I thought of it more as noodling 20 cent coins to see what interesting coins I could find rather than concentrating solely on finding that mythical wavy.
To cut a long story short I noodled 55,880 20c coins of which 878 where 1966 coins before finally finding the elusive wavy on 5 October 2018.
The harsh reality is the longer you go without finding one the less likely you are of ever doing so because every year tens of millions more non-wavy coins are released into circulation, while the limited amount of wavys out there is decreased by those lucky and dedicated enough to find one.
But you'll NEVER find one if you don't keep looking, so chin up and good luck on your quest.

@MachinMachinMan - Thanks for the encouragement. Money is really tight until the end of the year so I don't like my chances of noodling the little blighter in 2021. 2022 should see a lot more noodling activity.

Wavy too long for an update on the quest.

Just finished reading this entire thread. I like a good "treasure hunt". Unfortunately this one finished up as abruptly and as unsatisfyingly as a series of The Curse of Oak Island.

Well I'm back baby! No updates because no noodling. With X-mas, renos at parents house and final mortgage payments out of the way it's noodling time again! BTW MS71 - I think the real treasure in Oak Island was the Youtube revenue with just enough new leads to keep the punters strung along. Total 20c coins noodled = 11540 Total no. of 1966 coins = 169 Number of wavy coins = 0 The 50 years of decimal always nice. My Kiwi pals are still appearing but the feathers on one are a bit ruffled.

Another 420 coins under the belt. Even the commemoratives were a bit lacklustre. Total 20c coins noodled = 11960 Total no. of 1966 coins = 174
Number of wavy coins = 0

Ever get the feeling that previous collectors have pecked the 20 cent supply dry?
I would just buy one and salt it in the mix.
Those Kiwi 20 cent pieces are great, we haven't used those for 16 years! Do you ever get New Zealand florins as well, because they were cupronickel and circulated alongside 20 cent coins here.

Yep. I rarely get a 2001 State centenary coin and I haven't had a 2004 big head for a while. Although each successive year of adding new coins to the mix is diluting the number of collectables as well. No, I haven't had a Kiwi florins yet.

David, when you noodle 20 cent coins these days are you finding that about 25% of them are 2017 and later?

I haven't kept a count but yes, a lot of shiny new ones of late. I need to update the thread this weekend. Will do a count next batch.
