No way is my library nicer than the ANA nor anywhere as complete either. I lived near the ANA and spent many, many hours there. My friend Dwight made such a nice donation they even renamed it after him. I do miss having the ANA so close to me, but the NNP helps to make up for that these days, especially with covid-19 and so many places shut down. Good luck on your set, I'm keeping an eye on it, please post when you do make upgrades, I'm sure lots of us would appreciate seeing any new additions too. The real kicker is what I paid for the book, it was listed at $30 I paid well under half that, in fact the postage share might have been more than the book cost. I spent a bunch at that sale though and got some books I've wanted for a long time, the big one being Bowers California Gold Rush book (made possible by Dwight - again he pops up). Its a huge book and one of my largest now (both in size and number of pages, as well as amount of information contained). I also wish I had the space where I am now to have my library out, it's mostly in boxes in a storage unit at the moment. I keep a small bookshelf with permanent items on it, and a couple of shelves that rotate in and out.

westcoin, as noted, you should still be so very proud of your library!
Yes, I'll keep this string going with any upgrades to this set of 14 coins. With two of the existing coins (1927 and 1929) I did the not so smart thing of buying those two coins as fillers until I see ones in the grades I want with the eye appeal I like. But these two had such nice eye appeal, I'm OK having done that move. While I should be able to easily sell them once upgraded, even if I lose a little bit, I find the advantage is that when one does come along in the grade I want, I now have an existing coin with high eye appeal (to me at least) to compare against the potential upgrade to make sure the eye appeal of that newer one is at least as nice as the coin it will replace. This technique will help me with the discipline not to settle for one in the grade I want if it's really not quite nice enough.
Congratulations on that score of that VERY special Cline book on SLQ's at a bargain bin price!

Quote: I fully agree! My personal experience with Gerry Fortin of GFRC over the past four or five years is identical. Prehaps you heard the story of some of his coins being stolen from the mail a year or so back and then showing up at another dealer's shop which resulted in the busting of a mail theft ring? That was the shop I work at, and go figure, the ONE day I'm out to go see a doctor about knee pain I miss everything fun. Sigh. I did have a VERY funny phone conversation with Gerry recently enough regarding the whole incident. Julian (my boss) omitted a lot of the details of their phone conversation regarding the incident as it was happening, however Gerry thought it was worth mentioning and I'll say it was extremely humorous.

Yes, I was on top of that story, as it all happened very shortly before the Winter FUN show in January. I went over to Julian's table on the right side of the bourse to thank him. Shortly after, as you know, the Newman Numismatic Portal created a real nice video describing that incident. GREAT outcome, thanks to Julian.

Steven, If you can happen to remember the link or title of the video and could share it that would be great, I try and keep up on all the stuff that NNP puts up but of course miss some items. I must have missed that one, and it's a story I was following too. Would love to see that clip. Thanks.
I've looked all over and can't find anything even referencing the theft or recovery.

I should have time tonight to search for the link. Once I find it, I'll post it. Great video, and as best as I recall, it was about 15 minutes or so.

@thecoinguy64: I'm a total SLQ afficianado. It's IMO the most gorgeous 20th Century coin designed, but acquiring a single one even in not key or semi-key date in full head and date can be a costly proposition. Still, putting together a collection you're considering is one heckuva thing, if you happen to live that long because well, if you're going to settle on a lifelong pursuit, this would certainly be one for sure.

I wish you good luck, a set of AU/MS SLQ will be a beautiful and fun endeavor. I know you are planning long term, but this is an expensive endeavor. I hope you make it. Please keep us posted as you get the coins.

Here is my slabbed set of SLQ's. The set is not all that hard. Just takes time and some cash. Good luck in your endeavor.
