came across this while searching coins. What are your thoughts the details are almost flush with the coin and it just seemed odd.

Seems weakly struck, perhaps from being Struck Through Grease. Also, I think I see a small Rim Fin at 1 o'clock on the obv.

Respectfully disagree with Spence and Coinfrog. A Struck Through Grease error should lower the relief of the devices and design elements and remove detail from the highest points. What I'm seeing here seems to be effecting the fields the most strongly. I'm gonna say a very tired old die.

It appears the raised devices on the die (the incuse devices on the coin) were almost totally removed on the missing areas. The mark on the inside of the rim is Machine Doubling not a fin. {red]Why not a fin?[/red] Because fins are on the outside edge of the rims. Just like collar clashes are on the inside of the rim.
