Hello everyone. As far as I have learned, please correct me if I am wrong, when there is no mint mark it is assumed it was minted in Denver yes?

Someone claims(on Pinterest)that the 1975 San Francisco Roosevelt dimes where supposed to be proof sets hence no mark and that by accident went into circulation. On ebay one finds the words "very rare" " uncirculated" " not graded" prices go from $10.00 to $300.00 but the one that takes the cake is in Pinterest a whopping $500,000.00

I am just wondering if there could be something going on with this coin if so. Anyone knows what?
I hope to have a good time.

no mint mark means Philadelphia, not Denver.

What question exactly do you have regarding this coin (tell us and show us)?

On Dimes, Philly dimes do not have a mintmarks until 1980. (Proof or business strikes) Since 1968, the proof dimes have a 'S' mints. Before 1968 The proof coins where struck in Philadelphia.

During the 1965-1967 all coins were struck without mintmarks from all three mints. SMS proof coins were from San Francisco without mintmarks. In 1968, the Proofs were supposed to have 'S' mintmarks, but some Proof dimes didn't have the 'S' mintmarks on the proof dimes.

1982-P Business strike dimes were also found without the 'P' mintmark.
So the 1975 dime above is a normal business strike dime, with no mintmark, because if was from Philly.

But these will be proof dimes, not business strike dimes. Hope this helps.

Its a 75 No-S proof Roosevelt that , when the MM is missing, is valuable. I think only 2 been known to exist so far. After looking up the article, the same woman discovered both. Now thats some luck
On business strike, a no MM is from the Philly mint D is Denver

The dime pictured appears to be a common, well-circulated, business strike 1975 Philadelphia mint (hence, no mint mark) coin--not a proof.

Someone pulled a 1975 business strike dime out of their pocket and decided to call it an error and ask stupid money for it. It looks like half the coins on ebay

Also, the no S proof coins were not put into circulation. They were only found in proof sets.

Lots of coins on ebay, Etsy, pintrest, youtube, etc. are normal Philadelphia circulation issued coins with no mint mark that are misidentified as proof coins. Sellers seem to think that Shiny = Proof. They can ask any amount they want, so they range all over. Finding coins that SELL for these ridiculous prices is another matter. You may find a few sales for the low end ($5-$10) from time to time, but these seem to be buyers that don't know the difference in normal issue vs proof. They think they're buying a rare coin for nothing and should be able to turn around and sell it for the real "No S" proof value.
