Note how the center of the mintmark is taller than the mintmark itself? There is a die chip starting on the top of the device. I've seen this on a 'D' mintmark. On the 'D', there is a post on the die that forms the center of the mintmark. When this post breaks off, deeper than the post so part of the base of the post comes off, it leave a void. So when the next coin is struck, where the void on the die was is now raised on the coin. So I'm guessing that is what you seeing on your coin. A 'D' mintmark that has broken off the die and now is above the mintmark, showing the void that the die has now, looking like a 'S'.

Oh wow! That's actually kind of neat. Happened during striking. So this would be an error? What kind of error is this called? Or is it not?

Well I was concentrating on the last image, that didn't appear to be a proof coin, but if the other two images above it is the same coin, then it could be chips on the top of the 'S' mintmark. But not a big deal. The coin if found in circulation would be a called an 'impaired proof coin."
