Hi all, just curious why some of my silver coins appear golden toned versus silver toned. I have owned these coins for decades and stored them in the same manner, so I figured they'd look pretty similar after awhile of being exposed to the same elements. Also, is there a preference for either tone?

Coins tone differently. I like the one on the left more. It shows the mint luster better, also seems to be in a higher grade than the other one.

I prefer silver coins that display the mint luster as opposed to
a silver coin the may have the same amount of luster, but is hidden under heavy patination.
Rest in Peace

The coin on the left is uncirculated versus the one on the right being circulated. This alone will result in a difference in the toning process under the same conditions.

The example on the left works best for me, however, I wouldn't kick the other one out of its capsule or 2x2 for looking 'dull'.

I think the goldish hue with luster looks pretty cool as well. A bit more interesting, though it doesn't seem correct compared to a lustrous silver one. Thanks for the responses!
