Can someone please explain to me what happened to this poor quarter? I'm at a loss here. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Looks like a parking lot coin to me.

Well if it is someone did a great job of making one straight pattern across it and then put it in the wall of my house

Coin was scraped against an abrasive surface (under a heavy load)--like asphalt in a parking lot, or a concrete floor in a heavy machine shop. Cool example.

to the CCF! It looks as if someone tried to stop their car on a DIME, QUARTER in this case. Just damage, nothing in the minting process could cause this.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

I agree with all of the above, simply post mint damage ( PMD) regardless of how the damage was done. Spend it, if you can get someone to take it, to the CCF!

There is no way to say exactly how the damage occurred, it is for certain though that it did not happen during the minting process.

Probably shot across the parking lot, like bullet. What ever happened to it, it is a damaged coin for sure.

I would assume "caught in machinery of some kind". Tree mulcher, or something like that. Or, if it was "in the wall" of a house, perhaps some sort of construction machinery, which damaged it, then propelled it into its resting place.
