1918 Wheat Penny. Double Die And Very Unique Die Cracks.

BrianCoin123 New Member United States 10 Posts	Posted 03/05/2021 9:53 pm Hello, I came across a pretty interesting find that a collector may like. It's a 1918 penny. I didn't include the pics, but it has doubling on the obverse, the date and the reverse. What I'm curious about is the three parallel lines running from the top of Lincoln's head right down to his chin. I'm assuming these are die cracks. I wanted to get some thoughts as to whether some collector may pay a premium for this given the uniqueness. Any info would be much appreciated. Thank you! Report this Post to the Staff

(Metal hacksaw blades have offset teeth making 3 marks or cuts as it is drawn across the medium being cut.) Collecting since 1972. Learning from then on "Tell me and I forget. Numisma Pillar of the Community United States 4963 Posts	Posted 03/06/2021 11:21 am Die cracks should be raised, which doesn't appear to be the case here. They also generally shouldn't be straight and parallel to one another. If they did happen to occur on Abe's face, they would be the first thing to wear off in circulation. Your coin is lacking most details in that area, indicating heavy wear, but still prominently displays these scratches. I guess the jury's still out on doubling until we can see some sharper pictures, but I don't see any indication so far. Sorry for giving a disappointing answer.
