Just wanted to say happy holidays and a good new year to all my coin collecting friends, and also to the moderators that keep this a friendly place to post. I hope no one has to sell any of their collection and that all of us can find that special coin we want to own. I have been thinking about collecting goals for 2009. I want to finish my Walking Liberty, and Mercury dime sets in circulated grade. Those were inherited and I feel the need to complete them. I also want to start a Peace dollar set in as high a grade as I can afford. Long term goal, beyond 2009, is to complete the Dansco gold page. Now I've got to get to the bank to pick out five nice looking Franklin half dollars to pass out to my five nieces and nephews and granddaughter. What are your 2009 goals? Peace!

We have something in common: I'd also like to finish my Mercury dime set in 2009. I also am interested in picking up some common date 2 cent, 3 cent, 3 cent silver and Seated dimesI echo your sentiments. This CCF site is my favorite site and I enjoy reading and learning from so many and hope that the few contributions I've made have been likewise helpful. Have a wonderful holiday everybody.

Has anyone on here ever asked Santa for a coin? Is Santa a good grader, or does he consistantly over-grade? How does one go about asking a non-collector for a coin for x-mas? Or should I just buy myself a(nother) present? I wanted to ask Santa for a 1913s T2 Buff, but since I was weary of his grading I settled for wishing for a digital camera to share my collection with my CCF friends!

Quote: How does one go about asking a non-collector for a coin for x-mas? I tried that this year and I will let you know how it goes, but I am not holding my breath! If Santa drops some money down my chimney this year I will probably just get it myself. I suppose if the non collector knew enough about third party grading systems that would take some of the guess work out of it, since they could pick up slabbed coins. Otherwise I pretty much stick to supplies on my Christmas list, like certain books or maybe a new folder.

I want to throw in my MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR to all the folks at CCF. You guys and gals are wonderful and such a wealth of knowledge. I started this year in a new hobby, Metal Detecting, and started to wonder about the stuff I was finding in the ground. Living in Colorado, I can't MD during winter, tough to find a coil that will do 6 feet of snow and a foot of ground, so I decided to research coin collecting, to work on when I can't metal detect. Then I was given charge of my fathers coin collection, which is HEAVILY into Lincoln Cents with a smattering of everything else. So I have started two new hobbies this year and I Love both of them. Thank you to all of you who have taught me so much and I look forward to learning a LOT more. Hopefully, Santa will bring me the 2009 Red Book so I can really start reading. May you and yours have a Joyous Holiday Season and may 2009 bring you many new milestones! God Bless you All!

Mycrob, how long have you been working on your Merc set? Does that also include the '16D?

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah (which began sundown yesterday evening), and Happy New Year to all of our friends! For 2009 I will repeat my 2008 goal, which is to finish my LHC collection. I managed to buy a 1909-S earlier this year, so I have one less coin to worry about for the next! I only need the "big three" for my Mercury dime set, but that series will probably remain on hold until the LHC set is complete. (Edit: corrected start time for Hanukkah, which is the evening before the first day. Thanks, Tony!)

I too would like to wish everyone here a fantastic, great, wonderful, joyish, happy Holiday season. And that's for all the upcoming holidays. At my age there are to few people I know left that would give me a coin for a Chistmas Present so last Sunday at a coin show I purchased some coins to finish a few sets. Needed a 23S to finish Mecury Dime Album #12. Needed several Indian Head (Buffalo) Nickels for sets #9 and #10 so bought them. Also, a few miscellaneous coins. Every year I order sets of Uncir coins from the Mint. Those and a ringed Red Book are given to friends and relatives for Christmas Presents. Way, way back used to be almost 25 of those for me. Now as those people slowly pass on the amount has dropped to 7. Hopefully all your relatives are with you all.

I'll add my holiday greetings and say Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the forum and have learned much.
Let's keep it going in the new year.

First, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of my Family here! On the question of "finishing sets" ... I just realized I've never completed a set! I have one or two coins to go on several (keys and non-keys). I think when I get close I slow down or stop ... don't want to finish it. What's the medical term for that affliction?
