I recently got my first high relief, but it has a bluish haze about it that subdues its luster. This is really appearant on the reverse as the haze is not totally covering. Should I give her an acetone bath? Professional conservation? I appreciate the input.

And what grade would you give her!

Acetone wouldn't hurt, could help some. Coin appears to have been cleaned in the past. Wouldn't advise anything beyond acetone. Is your goal to sell the piece soon, hold onto it and enjoy it, other?

I think it all depends on how well the whatever is on it comes off. I strive for an 'aesthetic' peace collection and this isn't it.

Looks like this coin has been cleaned already. And acetone will not remove what looks like a finger print

What grade/value would you all attribute to it as it is?

to CCF. Do Not Dip. looks like it has been cleaned not to long ago. 100% pure acetone is ok, but don't expect to much from it.

Dipping it can't make it any worse.
It's already been WAY over-cleaned.

Guessing there's little you can do to improve this coin.

As others have said, it's been overly dipped/cleaned. As far as grade, AU -Details, cleaned. Value is dependent on what someone will pay, this varies on Details coins. Check SOLD listings on XF-AU Details examples to get a ballpark of "value".

Maybe it looks better in hand but I would sell it clearly noting it as "cleaned or dipped" and buy one with that money that wasn't. Another dipping or cleaning will only make it worse.

Glad you found the site! I already commented at the other non coin site. You'll find a lot of helpful and dedicated coin collectors here at CCF. Looking forward to seeing you around here.

Do you thing that ANACS would slab it in an AU details holder. It looks like on ebay, certification sets consistently above a 200+ mark, but without its pretty unpredictable.

You ask about dipping then say acetone...I consider acetone as a bath...let it soak for a day...then "gently" (emphasis added) pick at the affected areas while in the acetone (don't let it dry out) with a toothpick, porcupine quill or rose thorn. Don't expect the affected areas to clean right up...the soaking has only softened up the top layer of gunk (once in awhile you'll get a whole chunk that removes easily)...then soak it again and repeat until the desired outcome is achieved or there is no further progress because the area is permanently stained. Rinse and pat dry...do not rub with towel or paper towel...just blot it dry.
Hopefully the haze you have is just from being in the same flip too long and some of the original luster reappears.
Good luck and let us know how she turns out (with pics)!

Agree with the advice already given. Grade is mid AU cleaned.
