The image optimizer really tears up these pictures on mobile phones but here is this unusual Wheat cent. Wondering what could've happened to it. The rim is normal. It doesn't look manipulated. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

A lot of people shaved them down to use in machines that took dimes back in the day. John1

Could you post two or three photos taken end-on (at different points along the rim) so we could see more of what may be happening? Thanks.

I tend to agree with John1 on this one...how about placing a dime on top and see if he/we are on the right track....

The coin in question is stacked on top of another coin. John1

FYI- Never a good idea to hold your coins in your fingers. Oils from your skin can cause fingerprints to be left on coins, ruining any potential numismatic value. Better is to hold coins using inexpensive cotton gloves available from anywhere that sells hobby supplies. I agree with what others have said, your cent has been grinded down to get it the the size of a dime. Way back then, soda machines would sell you a soda for only a dime, and it was commonplace for people to try to get one cent coins the same size as a dime for an extra cheap soda! Ask coop, he'll tell you all about it. We see these a lot.

Quote: The rim is normal. It doesn't look manipulated. Diameter may tell you more. Back in the day if it fit in a dime slot, then it replicated a dime inserted using one cent. Be it a phone booth, cigarette, or soda machine. Thanks, Doug.

I will add pics of the rim tonight but you guys are probably right because it's practically the perfect size of a dime

And thank you for the welcomes! I know that with actual valuable coins I will use our white gloves
