When rich people are starting to dump expensive Type Sets onto the market, the end is near.

Disagree Ed,
The market has been stronger than ever, and even though many sets are being sold, those sets are selling for record prices.

Rich people die, too. I suspect many of them realize their heirs are better served if their collection is liquidated while they still draw breath.

Quote: The market has been stronger than ever, and even though many sets are being sold, those sets are selling for record prices. Exactly. Highest prices are realized at the top. Edit to add: it does look like we are actually past peak. Take a 1905 PR66 CAM for instance. Price right now is about $2,250 but back in 2013 it sold for $4,950. https://www.PCGS.com/pricehistory#/?=83903-66

Quote: When rich people are starting to dump expensive Type Sets onto the market, the end is near. Also to note the DL Hansen sets you see selling at David Lawrence are his thirds and fourth sets, He is keeping most of his 1st & 2nd place registry sets intact. As discussed on the "other forum" it's not about him spending a million dollars on a single coin, he get's maybe even more enjoyment buying 1,000 $1,000.00 coins just the same. This guy really loves coins, his plans are not to sell any of his main pieces after he is done upgrading, but to put them into a family trust for his children. This is a man that truly loves his coins and loves competing against other collectors for the best. DL Hansen has so much money, the coin collection (even if it's the #1 & #2 sets on PCGS registry in almost every category) isn't even a big part of his wealth. The ultra wealthy have bank accounts that we mortals can't even imagine. He has been buying up entire collections that were always advertised as "Not for Sale" in the past. I suppose when you have a bank account that large you can get those Not for Sale sets by offering a price beyond what the owners thought they would ever see. i.e. Someone working a minimum wage job would need to work 329 days to make as much as Jeff Bezos made in 2020 in one single second. At that pace we mere mortals can never catch up to play in their league. Currently DL Hansen is reportedly worth north of $4 Billion. I suppose if most of us here at CCF had an almost unlimited wealth, we too, would be buying coins like this over most other things. Spending $1 million per week (or about $143,000 every day), you could keep that up for just over 19 years with a billion dollars, and that's not including any interest you'd be making either.

Coin market is just getting revved up. People are looking for alternative investments with all the cheap money floating around .

I have seen the DL Hansen Set in the nice blue virtual album before. Absolutely gorgeous coins. Quote: Coin market is just getting revved up. It does seem that rare coins are influenced by the Gold and Silver markets. https://www.PCGS.com/pricehistory#/?=4263-63 (select "All")

Quote: that's not including any interest Perhaps more to the point, if he earns 1% on that $4 billion, he could spend $100k a day on coins and not even burn off the interest.

Last Sunday I won a GC auction of a 1911 Proof Liberty nickel. I will post it in the "...Latest Acquisitions" thread when I receive it.

I'd buy that set except many of the grades are less than I'd want.

I wonder if they will take $100 per month payments?

Quote: I wonder if they will take $100 per month payments? At that rate it would only take you 395 years to pay off, that is if they charged no interest on top of the price with no down payment.
