This coin appears to be altered, just wanted to clarify with the experts. Do not want to pass off as unaltered weak d, as it was to me. Thank You!

Looks like a normal 22-D with circulation damage to me.

Looks to me like a normal 22-D that was hit by a punch tool to depress the mintmark.

Appears legit, but curious nonetheless.

Mine should be held apart from the opinions of the numismatists above. Mine is eligible just as a general opinion of tooling on metal. That mint mark looks harshly tooled to my eyes.

IMO someone was trying to create a 1922 Plain cent.
Things just don't look right.

I respectfully disagree.

Why stop altering the coin when the mint mark is still clearly visible?

Maybe it was a misguided attempt to hammer down the D, and when he realized that wouldn't work, he quit. I guess we'll never really know...

Like I said, intentional or not, it is damaged. Keep for curiosity, but it would not fill any album holes for me.

How many projects have I abandoned because the project played out as a bad idea in process? How many of my abandoned projects refuse to leave the earth?

Maybe it's not album worthy but I've got a Harris 1909-40 folder that I put overflow coins into that it would have a home in. This is my circulated, no coins will be turned away portion of my collection - although if you don't make the folder, you end up in a roll.
