I am very impressed with the numismatic detective work here.

They appear to have taken a screenshot off NGC and then printed the label. The barcodes match up visually but the quality is so bad that I can't scan it with my barcode app. Most of these I've seen online the cert# matches but the barcode doesn't. Installing a free barcode reader is another line of defense against these criminals. Good catch. Who was the seller?

Thanks, someone finally copy & pasted an image of the coin, before being removed from ebay. The Chinese are the scourge of the Earth!

Do sellers of fake coins ever get banned from ebay rather than just the listings removed? It appears NGC and PCGS don't care about their holders being faked since I've never heard of them pressing charges. In particular, when the fake is obvious and the seller is intentionally trying to deceive, rather than just being ignorant (fraud).

I concur that the coin looks much better than the VF grade designated. It also appears that the 7's are not the same and there is some general graininess especially on the lettered devices that would cause me to be suspect. Also I have never seen a label peel of inside the slab.

Are you folks saying that this seller minted a fake coin? How is he/she able to have 100% positive feedback? I am SO glad that I didn't buy from ebay, I would have likely been the person that got taken due to lack on knowledge.

No, the Chinese made a fake coin and put it in a fake holder. The seller may or may not have known.

You would think that a counterfeiter trying to produce and pass such a rare date would do a better job. Even a novice could determine that the grade of the counterfeit doesn't match the TPG grade let alone all the other abnormalities. What scares me are the tons of coins that aren't as easy to spot and with modern technology they are getting harder to spot.
