I am a big fan of the Barber series. Today's mail brought this 1893-O Barber half dollar which I recently won in an ebay auction offered by a seller in the UK. I bought the coin as an AU and like the toning and luster. I checked out all the 1893-O halves listed on ebay and it looks like the weak strike on the left leg and wing of the eagle is not uncommon for this issue. I now have four nice Barber half dollars in my collection. Just thought I'd share it with others. Paul Bulgerin

Well done. I would say your assessment of an AU to be spot on. Coinage struck at the New Orleans mint are prone to be weakly struck. Fully struck are rare and priced accordingly, your example looks to be in the middle.

Thanks for the responses. It is so good to have a forum where a collector, who lives in a house with a wife and two daughters who couldn't care less about coins, can share his love of numismatics with others.

Nice example! Overall nice strike, nice color. My only concern would be the hairlines heading E-W on the cheek and neck, some appear to pass into the E fields. @Paul, how do those look in hand?

Looks like a winner for a high end AU coin. Great luster and light toning that doesn't appear to hide anything or impair the look at all.
